I am so excited to be bringing this travel guide to the blog! My family and I call Steamboat, CO our second home. We have been coming here since I was about 10 years old. Since our first trip here, it has always been a place we have wanted to go back to. The people are so friendly and it’s such a cute small country town!

Steamboat, CO is so picture perfect during the winter. They have all the snow coated trees light up and people are walking around the downtown area or the Gondola Square. It is very much a family fun place to go during the winter!

Since I shared my trip to Steamboat for Christmas on Instagram, I had a lot of questions about what to do, where to stay, and other things around the town! I love how much interest there was in coming here because it is one of my personal favorites:) Below I have listed out everything I know and have experienced here in Steamboat!

Things To Do

  1. Head Downtown to walk along the streets filled with shopping, food and fun! This little town is strung with lights all around and looks like it’s right out of a Hallmark Channel Movie.
  2. Sit in the Gondola Square by the fire and enjoy a drink as you watch the skiers come down the slopes.
  3. Relax a little at Strawberry Park Hot SpringsThese all natural hot springs are absolutely amazing!! We love going here to soak in all the natural minerals to sooth our muscles after skiing for a couple days.
  4. Get your Tubing on and take on some really big hills out at Saddleback Ranch! There is a bus that picks you up from the Gondola Square so no need to worry about driving anywhere.
  5. Experience what Dog Sledding is all about with Steamboat Dog Sledding! You can either drive your own dog team or have a guided tour. They include a complimentary shuttle as well.
  6. If you are looking to take a trip on the wild side during your stay in Steamboat, I highly recommend going snowmobiling!! Steamboat Snowmobile has two different guided tours you can pick from and both are such a thrill.
  7. Looking for something a little bit more romantic? Steamboat has a beautiful sleigh ride dinner! This is something I have actually always wanted to do. It would be so beautiful to do it on a night when its not snowing so you can see the full mountain light up by the moon!

Ski/Snowboard Rentals & Lift Passes

  1. Ski Haus: This is the place we rent from every time we are up here. They offer the best prices for skis and snowboards. It is a bit away from the mountain so you have to head into the town a little bit.
  2. Christy Sports: If you cant get into town, this place is in the Gondola Square. The rentals are a little bit more pricey but a lot more convenient
  3. Ikon Pass: If you plan on skiing a lot or want to go to other resorts, you might want to look into an Ikon Pass! They give you access to different resorts and you can ski an unlimited amount!
  4. Ski Pass: If you are just looking to ski a couple days, then use the Steamboat.com website to purchase your day tickets. If you book them early enough, they offer a great discount. If you don’t know if you will ski or not till you get there then you can purchase them in the Gondola Square.

Lodging

There are a couple hotels at the base of the mountain to stay at but personally the best places are renting a condo or town home! If you go to www.steamboat.com there you can select lodging. If you are skiing with little ones, I would recommend doing ski in and ski out. It is so much easier than trying to carry skis and polls for the little ones.

If you are looking to save a little, most of the resort area is walkable so you don’t have to be slope side. On the Steamboat website you can select how far away from the base you would like to be! Just for reference, the place that my family owns is less than 1/4 of a mile from the slope and it’s super easy to walk to the slopes put on skis and go.

The Mountain

If you are big into skiing like my family or looking to learn, Steamboat is honestly such an amazing place! The mountain has 18 lifts, 165 different trails to ski, ranging from green to double blacks, and 3 different restaurants. They offer private lessons, child daycare, and kids ski school for beginners.

When we go we end up skiing all day long and spend all our time on the mountain! We get up around 9am, head to lunch around noon, and head down around 3:30pm. I am always so exhausted at the end of the day but we get to ski most of the mountain in a day!
