Mixing Prints In The Winter

Pleated Skirt: Nordstrom // Pom Pom Sweater: Nordstrom (ON SALE!) // Plaid Scarf: J.Crew Factory // Black Pumps: Steve Madden // Purse: Tory Burch // Hoop Earrings: Kendra Scott

Have you seen those magazines where they have 3 different plaids styled on top of each other or multiple prints all styled together in one outfit? Most tend to think, “What on earth? I could never wear something like that!” So why do brands showcase everything together like that instead of how a “normal” person would style it? Wouldn’t it make sense to style them individually?

I took different prints/patterns and threw them into a look, a little less intense than the magazines but none the less it was something different! At first I was concerned that the black pom pom’s and black pleated skirt didn’t mesh well with the blue/green plaid but over time the look grew on me. When we were shooting this it look felt fun and exciting. Not something I had seen most style. Which helped bring more creativity to my thoughts on other outfits like this to create.

Sometimes stepping outside of one’s comfort zone every once in a while and looking for something that hasn’t already been done can be scary. It might be seen silly styling something so “simple” as a pom pom’s, plaid and pleats together but the outcome creates new ideas and opens you up to other ideas.

The idea of those magazines creating such out there looks isn’t for you to recreate the looks exactly as seen but rather to try something else. Maybe you aren’t into plaid or haven’t styled it before. So next time you are in that store you are remembering the magazine and how they styled that “crazy” plaid look. Ultimately, drawing you to want to try plaid!
