Tips For Adding Color To A Room

Painting: Minted [c/o] // Dresser: // Clothing Rack: Ikea // Floor Length Mirror: Home Goods // Pink Ottoman: Target (Old, Similar HERE) // Gold Trays: Hayneedle // Pinapples: Waiting On Martha // Blue & White Vase: Home Goods // Books: Half Price Books // Blue & White Frame: Tuesday Morning

Happy Monday! I mentioned a couple months back I was redoing my room to “adult” it a little bit more. It is such a slow process but I am having so much fun searching for new pieces to put in my room. Now I don’t have a huge budget so when I see something I love, I normally end up waiting to see if the store will have a sale. If it doesn’t go on sale I run to Home Goods, Marshalls or Tuesday Morning to see if they have something a little more affordable. I have been in those three stores so much because they always have new fun shipments coming in!

One thing I didn’t want to lose when “adulting” my room was the fun colors I had. I am always pinning bedrooms on Pinterest that are all white with accents of creams but I didn’t think that would suit my style in this moment of my life. I wanted to have that white crisp feel to my room but with pops of color. Adding color to any room can be tricky because you don’t want it to become to distasteful. So I have rounded up some fun tips I use when looking/adding pieces of color to my room:)

  1. Finding a painting or print with bold colors that can be a statement piece for the room. I received this print from Minted and I was super excited to place it over my dresser as the stand out item in the room. My color palette is white (main color), navy blue, pink and gold. So this print was bold enough to be my strong navy item in the room that pulled the navy blue out of my bedding and smaller decor pieces.
  2. Adding fresh flowers to a room! This is my favorite tip because I am obsessed with going to Trader Joe’s and picking out flowers from them. I usually go on Sunday so I can start my week off all fresh and bright:)
  3. Table books are a great way to add color to a room because they can be placed anywhere and can come in tons of different colors. Table books can be super expensive though so I run into Half Price Books occasionally to see if they have some of the style books for half the price. I have a list of books I want so I just run through their sections to see if I can find them or others. Most of the time people don’t end up reading table books so I hate spending like $50 and up on them.
  4. This is a really interesting concept/tip but mirrors add a lot of color to a room. They reflect what is seen in them which in the end gives more color. For example, I have a floor length mirror in my room with the pink ottoman close by. The mirror reflects the pink adding more color and depth to the room. Also mirrored furniture is great way to incorporate this concept into a room. Bed side tables sit next to your bed which if your bedding has pops of colors in the pillows, it will reflect that too.

I wanted to share a little bit about the mission of the shop Minted because I love everything about it:) Minted is a design marketplace that connects you to unique products from the world’s best emerging artists and helps you bring your style to life across homes, holidays, and occasions.
